Tracy's Race Guidelines

Johnny's Mom says...

Speed skating and practicing with the ... group has really helped Johnny. The club members ... are encouraging and nice, but still very focused. I think it has rubbed off, and Johnny likes the intensity and the camaraderie.

It's great when kids are focused on something good. He's happy to switch off the video games when it's time to leave for the rink! When we got home last night, he was smiling and said he wished the rink was open and he could skate more!

SPECIAL OLYMPICS SPEED SKATING

Our Special Olympics program was unfortunately terminated two years ago due to an action taken by Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC). For financial reasons, SOSC no longer classifies ice skating as an Official Sport, which means that SOSC no longer offers SOSC sanctioned speed skating or figure skating championships in Southern California. Santa Clarita Valley Special Olympics (SCVSO) made the difficult decision to drop ice skating as a sport from their program in order to allow their athletes the opportunity to compete in alternative Official Winter Sports, such as skiing and snowboarding, where sanctioned championships are available. We wish all of the athletes well in their alternative winter sports and trust that they will be as brave in these and other sports as they were in speed skating. We have all been enriched by our Special Olympians and we want each of them to know that they are always welcome to drop in and skate with us as special members separate from SCVSO whenever they want.

Mission

To develop young talent, foster community involvement and continue to grow as a dynamic club representing US Speedskating.

Club Profile

We're a growing club, always looking for new members to share in this exciting sport.

Our club is affiliated with US Speedskating, and the Southern California Speed Skating Association (SCSSA).

We're a non-profit, charitable organization [IRS 501(c)3].

Skaters young and old, beginner to advanced, are coached by former U.S. National team member Ron Halcrow. By placing an emphasis on proper skating technique, he creates an atmosphere where all skaters, regardless of skill level, are welcome.
